Forthyron 200 and Forthyron 400 tablets for dogs
Forthyron tablets contain a hormone supplement which is chemically identical to the hormone "Thyroxine" which is found naturally in the body. It is used to treat an under-active thyroid gland (causing hypothyroidism) which is a common medical condition in middle aged and older dogs. Forthyron 200mcg tablets and Forthyron 400mcg tablets are available.

Thyroxine, the hormone released from the thyroid gland found in the neck, circulates in the blood stream and is required for the proper functioning of virtually every cell in the body. If naturally occurring thyroxine levels are too low, then they can be supplemented with a chemically identical product called levothyroxine, the ingredient in Forthyron tablets for dogs. The signs of hypothyroidism in dogs can include:
A poor coat with areas of hair loss
A dry, scurfy and easily damaged skin
Lethargy
Obesity
Poor reproductive performance.

What are the side effects associated with Forthyron?
Luckily Forthyron side effects are rare, because it is identical to the naturally occurring hormone found and required in the body anyway. Where side effects are noticed, it is usually because of increased activity due to raised hormone levels. If a dog was previously suffering from congestive heart failure (diagnosed or not), then an increased load can be placed on the heart, accelerating cardiac decline. If the tablets are accidentally overdosed, this can cause an increased heart rate and blood pressure, which might cause other problems. Also if the dog was already suffering from an underactive adrenal gland (a different hormonal disorder known as Addison's disease, or hypoadrenocorticism), then the Forthyron levels can build up in the blood stream, causing an effective overdose, even when the correct dose is being given. Hence proper veterinary evaluation is always sensible before starting therapy, and periodically ongoing.Where can I buy Forthyron?
Forthyron is available from Viovet.co.uk, the leading UK online supplier of veterinary medication and a huge range of other pet care products. You need to ask your vet for a written prescription (which legally must be supplied on request, but can be charged for) then send it to us and place your order online. Remember to ask your vet for a prescription for as many tablets as possible. (Most vets will supply a prescription for 6 month's worth of medication.) You can then order this all in one go, or in as many smaller instalments as you wish. However do bear in mind that all prescriptions have a legal period of validity of no more than 6 months from the date of veterinary signature.
